Catalog Order Needed Better Timing

Ordering from Ginnys for a few household items was easy enough, but the delivery dates did not line up the way I expected once the order was split. One box arrived first while another stayed in processing. Has anyone had a multi-item order arrive in separate shipments, and did the remaining items usually update on their own or require checking with support? I would like to know whether split shipping is common for larger catalog orders.
